Elkhorn: Laurel L. Funk, 94, formerly of N. Wisconsin St. Elkhorn, WI died Monday March 8, 2010 at Kindred Hearts of Elkhorn, WI.
He was born December 13, 1915 in Mukwonago, WI the son of Walter L. and Caroline I. (Wobshall) Funk. Laurel worked on the family farm in the East Troy area until he was drafted into the Army where he served in the South Pacific during WWII from 1941 until 1945. He was united in marriage to Violet Lorraine Skinner on October 9, 1946 in Dubuque, Iowa. She died June 14, 2006. Laurel worked for over 34 years as a patrolman with the Walworth County Highway Dept. retiring in 1979. After retirement he worked for a short time for the City of Elkhorn. Laurel was a member of the Fist Congregational-United Church of Christ of Elkhorn. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed taking care of his home and yard. Laurel is survived by his daughter: Patricia (Kenneth) Sharp of Elkhorn, WI. 2 grandchildren: Robert (Jennifer) Sharp of Elkhorn, WI and James (Karen) Sharp of New Berlin, WI. 4 great-grandchildren: Brett, Courtney, Jacob and Julia Sharp. 1 sister-in-law: Eileen Funk of Kaukauna, WI. Several nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 59 years, 3 brothers: Roger, Willard and Howard.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am Thursday March 11, 2010 at Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home 730 N. Wisconsin St. Elkhorn, WI with Rev. Scott McLeod officiating. Entombment will be at Roselawn Memory Gardens in the Town of Delavan, WI. Visitation will be Thursday 10:00 am until time of services.
