- John R. Sontag, 86, of Delavan, Wisconsin, formerly of Lake Geneva, died Friday January 29, 2010 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, WI. John was born on January 23, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois the son of the late Arvy and Frances (Flaherty) Sontag. He was a Veteran of World War II serving with the United States Navy in the Pacific Theater as a Torpedoman onboard a destroyer. On October 9, 1948 in Chicago he was united in marriage to the former Mary Elizabeth Alcock; she preceded him in death on March 16, 2006. He owned and operated Sontag realty in Lake Geneva for many years. He was a member of Saint Benedict Catholic Church in Fontana, WI and a former member of the Lake Geneva Lions Club.
John is survived by: 8 children; John T. Sontag of Medford, OR, Kathie J. Bodey of Las Vegas, NV, Colleen E. (Keith) Robertson of Indianapolis, IN, Michael J. (Cindy) Sontag of Williams Bay, WI, Sally A. (Tim) Adams of Elko, GA, Timothy S. Sontag of Walworth, WI, Mary E. Sontag of Portland, OR, Elizabeth A. (Tom) Street of Friendswood, TX, 12 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and a sister Jean LeBeau, Park Ridge, IL. He was preceded in death by: his parents, 2 sons Daniel and Patrick, and 4 sisters; Gen Morrisey, Fran Kartheiser, Bette Seng and Louise Mennes.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be said Saturday February 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Benedict Catholic Church in Fontana, WI; Father Dan Sanders will officiate. The Sontag family will receive visitors Saturday in church from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. The Haase-Derrick-Lockwood Funeral Home and Crematory in Lake Geneva is assisting the Sontag family with arrangements.
